Barrick boosts dividend payout offer to Randgold shareholders ahead of vote

Barrick boosts dividend payout offer to Randgold shareholders ahead of vote TORONTO — Barrick Gold Crop. has enriched its offer to shareholders of Randgold Resources Ltd. ahead of a vote on a proposed merger. Toronto-based Barrick says Randgold shareholders will receive US$2.69 per share, up from the original proposal of US$2 per share. The company says the increased offer would match what Randgold shareholders would expect to receive as dividend payments without the merger. The boost sweetens a deal that was proposed as a no-premium takeover by Barrick chief executive John Thornton, in a divergence from the norm of the mining industry. Shareholders of Barrick itself will also see their fourth-quarter dividend boosted to seven cents, up from the originally agreed five cents. Barrick shareholders are set to vote Monday on the merger, while Randgold has pushed back its vote by two days in light of the late change to the offer. Companies in this story: (TSX:ABX)

EasyJet revives Alitalia interest

EasyJet revives Alitalia interest EasyJet has rekindled its interest in buying parts of Alitalia as the Italian government attempts to find a solution for its lossmaking national carrier. EasyJet said it had submitted a revised expression of interest for a restructured Alitalia with a proposal that was consistent with its “existing strategy for Italy”. Any private bid for Alitalia’s assets will be a test of the current populist Italian government’s ability to attract foreign investment, at a time when its economic policy has prompted a stand-off with Brussels . Alitalia was placed into special administration last year, the latest in a string of restructurings for the struggling airline over the past decade, but its sale was delayed following the change of government in Rome. Johan Lundgren, easyJet’s chief executive, said during the summer that the company was interested in buying parts of Alitalia’s operations. Pittsburgh buries 3 more shooting victims as suspect faces new charges PITTSBURGH (Reuters) - Federal prosecutors added more charges, including religious hate crimes, against the man accused of killing 11 Jews in a Pittsburgh synagogue, according to an indictment filed on Wednesday, as the city held funerals for three more victims. “Today begins the process of seeking justice for the victims of these hateful acts,” U.S. Attorney Scott Brady said in a statement, adding that his office “will spare no resource” to do so. Manmohan's integrity is unquestionable: Kher

Manmohan's integrity is unquestionable: Kher NEW DELHI: Veteran actor Anupam Kher told ET on Wednesday that his “perception” of former PM Manmohan Singh “has changed”. “I am honest enough to admit that,” Kher added, days after wrapping up the shooting of his new film, The Accidental Prime Minister , which is based on a book of the same name written by Singh’s media advisor (2004-2008) Sanjaya Baru. “My views on the scams that happened during the UPA era remain unchanged. 2-G, coal scams shouldn’t have happened. The movement against corruption was real. But I do feel Manmohan Singh’s personal integrity is unquestionable,” he added. Kher added over the last one year, while shooting for the film, he completely internalised Singh’s character, mainly by studying and watching all that was available on the ex-PM. “Honestly, I had reservations when the film came to me because there was this huge notion around Singh’s character that he was corrupt or gave way to corrupt people.
