Politically, Saraki Is Finished – Oshiomhole

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomhole on Wednesday mocked Senate President, Bukola Saraki for losing his re-election bid. He said though the ruling party had been planning to impeach the Senate President, it was better his constituents retired him politically from the Red Chamber. He spoke with State House correspondents at the Presidential Villa, Abuja after congratulating President Muhammadu Buhari who was declared winner of last Saturday’s election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Oshiomhole also pointed out that there was apprehension before the February 23 presidential election over who was going to win the election. He said President Buhari’s statement that the ruling party should be magnanimous with the victory was what was expected of a statesman. According to him: “Even in victory, he sowed humility and hand of fellowship to those who share commitment to the future of Nigeria and contested against him. But

Election Result: Those Who Predicted War Have Been Put To Shame — Oshiomhole

Those who predicted anarchy for Nigeria ahead of the 2019 presidential election have been put to shame, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, the National Chairman, All Progressives Congress(APC), has said. Oshiomhole made this known while fielding questions from State House correspondents after a congratulatory visit to President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday at the Presidential Villa. He said that by extending his hands of fellowship to everyone and congratulating those who contested with him, Buhari had proved he was a statesman who showed humility even in victory. And I think for those analysts who have been active since 1999, this is easily the most keenly contested election. My joy is that first, in the campaign, given the security issues in Nigeria, there was no incident of terrorist attack except the last day or so; maybe in Yobe or somewhere, I say to God be the glory. The second is that people who have predicted that Nigerians are going to fight; they are going to war and is like w

Election Result: ‘Not Even The Military Has Conducted Such A Worst Election In Our Nation’s History’ – Atiku

Atiku Abubakar, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has described the just-concluded presidential election as the worst held in the nation in the last 30 years. Atiku condemned the election while addressing party supporters and journalists on Wednesday in Abuja, the nation’s capital. Atiku, who rejected the outcome of the poll, said even the military government conducted a better election than the one conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on February 23rd. “As I have always said, this year is my three decades in Nigeria’s struggle for democracy; but this is the worst election in those 30 years. And I told that to General Abdulsalami (Abubakar) two nights ago, when he called me. I said not even the military has conducted such a worst election” he said. The PDP candidate alleged that there were a lot of irregularities in the election which saw President Muhammadu Buhari extend his stay in the Aso Villa by another four years. Despite his

Man covers himself with rubbish after Buhari wins presidential election

In a picture, a man posed with dirty secretion obvious on his face after fulfilling a vow to enter a gutter if President Muhammadu Buhari succeeds in his bid for re-election. On Wednesday, February 27, 2019, Nigeria's electoral body INEC, announced the incumbent as the winner of the presidential poll meaning an opportunity to continue with his plans. The man in the picture seemed happy about the idea with his hand gesture welcoming Buhari for another 4-year term as the President of Nigeria. Atiku Abubakar of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), who gained 11,262,978  votes against Buhari's 15,191,847, has rejected him as the winner. The PDP candidate in the election has assured his supporters that he shall contest the outcome in a court of law.

Buhari felicitates with Anyiam-Osigwe at 90

President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated Mrs Dorothy Chinyere Anyiam-Osigwe, the Executive Vice Chairman of the Anyiam-Osigwe Group, on her 90th birthday. Mr Femi Adesina, Presidents Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, made the felicitations in a statement in Abuja on Wednesday. Adeshina said Buhari joined family members, friends and associates of the nonagenarian in celebrating a lifetime of achievements and Gods benevolence to the passionate teacher. Buhari affirmed that as the President of the Osigwe Anyiam-Osigwe Foundation, Osigwe had made significant contributions to human development in the country through the annual lecture series of the foundation. He said that such contributions were worthy of commendation by all true lovers of knowledge and the place of education in nation building. The president paid tribute to the exemplary leadership of the Anyiam-Osigwe matriarch, whom he described as a passionate mother, entrepreneur and humanitarian. He wished the celebra

Open thread for night owls. Invoking Chile's Salvador Allende to give advice to Venezuela's Maduro

At The Nation, Ariel Dorfman writes— Salvador Allende offers you an outlet to Maduro . The late Chilean president shares some advice from beyond the grave: (If you prefer you can read his entire essay in Spanish .) Nicolás Maduro, Venezuela’s embattled president, has frequently invoked Chilean President Salvador Allende, who was overthrown and died in a US-backed coup on September 11, 1973, as a hero and a model. As a fervent supporter of the democratically elected Allende, who worked with him in the Presidential Palace in Santiago in the months before the military takeover, I feel compelled, therefore, to imagine the words of advice Allende might direct from beyond the grave to his Venezuelan colleague at this dangerous moment for Latin America. Señor Presidente Nicolás Maduro: I send you these words as you fight for your political life, vowing that you will not be deposed as I was in Chile by a military coup carried out by Gen. Augusto Pinochet, terminating democracy in my countr

Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr. take to Twitter to rip on Michael Cohen's testimony

If you tuned in to Michael Cohen’s testimony this morning, you likely caught the moment when Rep. Jim Jordan, a Republican from Ohio, pressed Cohen on whether or not he “wanted to work in the White House,” with the implication being that Cohen was testifying against Trump in bitter resentment over not being given a place in the administration. In full, Jordan said: “Here’s what I see. I see a guy who worked for 10 years and is here trashing the guy he worked for for 10 years, didn’t get a job in the White House, and now you’re behaving just like everyone else who’s got fired or didn’t get the job they wanted—like Andy McCabe, like James Comey. Same kind of selfish motivation after you don’t get the thing you want. That’s what I see here today.” Cohen denied this accusation pretty vehemently, saying, “All I wanted was what I got: to be the personal attorney to the president, to enjoy the senior year of my son in high school, and waiting for my daughter who is graduating from college

Heir to Gambino Crime Family Predicts Michael Cohen Will Get WHACKED in Prison, ‘Inmates Hate Rats’

Giovanni Gambino, an heir to the Gambino crime family predicted Trump’s former lawyer-turned-rat will get “whacked” in prison because ‘inmates hate rats.’ Michael Cohen is scheduled to report to prison on May 6th and Giovanni Gambino says Cohen will face a hit behind bars from furious inmates. The Daily Mail reported : ‘A message for Michael Cohen: He better keep his mouth shut,’ Giovanni Gambino told DailyMail.com on Wednesday morning, blasting Trump’s former fixer shortly before he publicly testified. Giovanni, the 43-year-old son of late Sicilian mob boss Francesco ‘Ciccio’ Gambino and cousin to infamous crime boss Carlo Gambino, speculated that Cohen’s withering testimony could have harsh consequences. ‘Inmates love Trump, and hate rats. If he wants to get out alive, he better keep his mouth shut about Trump,’ Giovanni said. Michael Cohen, a convicted liar who was just disbarred, testified in a public Congressional hearing on Wednesday. In his opening statement, Cohen cal

Sure sounds like SCOTUS is going to let the “Peace Cross” continue to stand on state land

The requisite caveat about not presuming too much from the tenor of oral arguments before the Court is hereby duly noted, but more than one media observer today was struck by how open most of the justices seemed to leaving the cross in place. And when I say “most,” I don’t mean the conservative five. Breyer and Kagan also seemed wary of ruling in a way that would require Maryland to have the cross removed. What makes this worth noting, though, isn’t the particular issue in this case. It’s the fact that the Court sounds understandably frustrated with its Establishment Clause jurisprudence about religious monuments on public land and might be toying with creating a new standard. But wait, back up. What’s the Peace Cross, you ask, and what does the Court currently say about religious symbols on government property? As chance would have it, I wrote about that when this case was working its way through the appellate system. Go read , then come on back for fun from today’s hearing.

MSNBC's Ruhle Laments New Gun Control Unlikely to Pass

On Tuesday's MSNBC Live, host Stephanie Ruhle griped about the difficulty of passing new gun laws as she and Dick's Sporting Goods CEO Ed Stack pined for more gun control. Ironically, on the same day's New Day show, CNN's John Avlon admitted that there are problems with the gun laws that already exist being properly enforced.

Chicago set to make history with its first black woman as mayor

Former Chicago Police Board President Lori Lightfoot and Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle, who are both Democrats, secured the two spots on the ballot for the April 2 general election in Tuesday’s nonpartisan primary for mayor of Chicago. Either Lightfoot or Preckwinkle would be the first black woman to serve as mayor of the Windy City, and Chicago will also soon become the largest city in America to ever be led by a woman of color. A Lightfoot victory would make Chicago the largest city in the country to ever be led by a gay mayor. Lightfoot took first place on Tuesday’s 14-way race with 17 percent of the vote , while Preckwinkle edged former White House chief of staff Bill Daley, the son and brother of Chicago’s two longest-serving mayors, 16-15 to claim the second general election spot. Preckwinkle, who is also the leader of the Cook County Democratic Party, looked like a frontrunner, if not the frontrunner, from the moment she entered the race in September , but Light

Can’t Make This Up–> Governor Blackface’s Wife Pam Hands Out Cotton to Black Kids on Mansion Tour

A picture from Democrat Virginia Governor Ralph Northam’s medical school yearbook surfaced in early February showing two men, one in a KKK hood and robe and one in ‘blackface’ on the same page as Northam. The photo was first published by Big League Politics  and later confirmed by other outlets such as WaPo and The Virginian Pilot. The Virginia Democrat leadership is initially defended the far left governor over the racist photos. Democrat leaders then called for Northam to resign.  But the blackface governor is still in office. Now this… Governor Northam’s wife Pam Northam is under fire for handing out cotton to black kids on a mansion tour. Philly.com reported: A Virginia state employee has complained that her eighth-grade daughter was upset during a tour of the historic governor’s residence when first lady Pam Northam handed a ball of cotton to her and another black child and asked them to imagine being enslaved and having to pick cotton. “The Governor and Mrs. Northam

“I’m gonna throw you off the set”: Greg Gutfeld, Juan Williams go nuclear over Cohen hearing

To cleanse the palate, lotta emotions running high today. I don’t know what this is really about but it’s not about the Cohen hearing. Williams rambles on a bit too long while panelist Morgan Ortagus is waiting to cut in, then he says something about a bunker, and — hoo boy. This is the closest the Fox News set has come to actual violence since the time Hannity pulled a gun on Juan . How has this guy survived this long? Two clips here from “The Five” plus one of Cohen’s closing statement today, which contained its own intimation of violence: “Given my experience working for Mr. Trump, I fear that if he loses the election in 2020, that there will never be a peaceful transition of power.” He’s overstating that; it’s not like Trump will deploy the military if he loses. But there’s literally no scenario in which he’ll graciously accept defeat, even if he loses by 10 million votes. Some sort of fraud and chicanery will be alleged to explain it. “That’s what they did to me with the Rus

Bill Jenkins, minority health advocate who worked to expose Tuskegee syphilis study, dies at age 73

Dr. Bill Jenkins devoted most of his professional life to addressing racism in health care. While he had many accomplishments over the course of his extraordinary career, he was best known for trying to put an end to the Tuskegee Experiment , an unethical study conducted on black men by the U.S. government in order to learn the effects of syphilis on the human body. Jenkins died in Charleston, South Carolina, on Feb. 17 at the age of 73.  Jenkins was employed at the United States Public Health Service as a statistician when he learned about the study. The federal government had intentionally lied to hundreds of black men in Macon, Alabama, about treating their “bad blood,” a term used locally to describe a variety of illnesses. The men, many of whom had syphilis, were initially recruited under the belief that they were receiving free medical treatment at the Tuskegee Institute. Most of them were sharecroppers who had never before seen a doctor. The men were never informed of the exper

Wilson-Raybould’s testimony ‘deflates’ Trudeau government’s projected image

The three weeks ago, the Globe and Mail story published a story alleging the Prime Minister’s Office pushed Justice Minister and Attorney General Jody Wilson-Raybould to go easy on SNC-Lavalin. The weeks since have been a vacuum filled with speculation and thunderous condemnation along with a pinch of ersatz partisan character assassination on the part […]

Alberta’s NDP government may be doomed by bad luck

There is good news and bad news in the Alberta government’s third-quarter fiscal update released Wednesday. The good news: the provincial deficit, originally pegged at almost $9 billion, will be closer to $7 billion. The bad news: pretty much everything else. This is not a good news update, to say the least. Even the good […]

Holy joke: how God became an unlikely TV comedy staple

In Miracle Workers and God Friended Me, God is threatening earthlings and using Facebook just months before Frances McDormand takes on the role As of late, the old God is more old hat than Old Testament. The image of the serious-faced Caucasian man clad in a long, flowing white beard and an even longer white robe is passé, as is the worshipful distance religious art tends to keep from him. The TV landscape of 2019 has allowed more room for an omnipotent deity than usual, all the while demystifying God as a person and idea. Sacrilegious? Maybe, but it has made for some fine entertainment (even if the creators might be consigning themselves to hell). Logic and Intuition – Antithetical or Cooperative? by Judith Shaw

“Art does not reproduce the visible; rather, it makes visible.”-Klee An artist is continually making decisions – decisions about subject matter, themes, materials, size. Does one do pre-planning with preliminary drawings are just dive right in? Once those decisions are made then one gets into the nitty-gritty of all the decisions needed to bring a particular piece to completion. But what is the best approach to use in making those decisions – logic or intuition? I have always described my own process as a painter as one of maintaining a fine balance between control (logic) and letting go (intuition). Until about ten years ago there was a lot more “letting go” in my process than control. I never pre-planned anything – often working from a feeling, other times from a story or myth. There was so much “letting go” involved that some of my pieces, like Inanna’s Return which was destroyed and re-found many times, end up weighing 20 – 25 lbs because of all the paint on the canvas. All of
