Clerics and dignitaries from different parts of the country honour the former vice president, Alex Ekwueme, as the Church of Nigeria Anglican Diocese Enugu holds a commendation service in his honour.
Channels TV reports that the service was a part of the week-long burial activities organised in honour of the former vice president.
Present at the event are the governors of Abia state, Okezie Ikpeazu, Enugu state, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, Imo state, Rochas Okorocha, Governor of Sokoto, Aminu Tambuwal former vice president, Atiku Abubakar.

Others are former Senate president Anyim Pius Anyim, deputy Senate president, Ike Ekweremadu, former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Charles Soludo, minister of labour, Chris Ngige, former governor of Anambra state, Peter Obi.
Hymns, prayers and tributes were offered by family friends and associates who described him as an irreplaceable gentleman of truth and honour.
Ekwueme’s remains arrived Enugu on Tuesday, January 30, for the southeast commendations ceremony which is being held at the Michael Opara Square, in the Independent Layout before departing to his hometown in Oko Anambra state where he will be laid to rest on Friday, February 2, 2018.

He died on November 19, 2017, at a London hospital after he was reported to have suffered a chest infection which left him in a coma in a hospital for two weeks.
NAIJ.com previously reported that the national summit on security being organised by the Nigerian Senate was postponed in honour of the late Alex Ekwueme.
The summit, scheduled to hold on Thursday, February 1 and Monday, February 5 at the Banquet Hall of the State House was to be declared open by President Muhammadu Buhari.
A statement sent to NAIJ.com by the chairman of the Senate ad-hoc committee on review of security infrastructure who is also the majority leader, Senator Ahmed Lawan, stated that the postponement was to honour the late former vice president, and to also enable federal legislators, particularly those from the southeast, participate fully in the burial programme of the late elder statesman.
