Sit-At-Home-Order: Partial Success Recorded In Asaba

The sit-at-home order issued by the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) was partially successful in some areas of Asaba, the Delta State capital.

Many shop owners, schools and corporate organizations in Asaba metropolis ignored the order by IPOB, as people went about their duties.

The popular Ogbonogono Market along Nnebisi Road was open at about noon after traders had earlier observed the mandatory Thursday sanitation rule imposed by local authorities.

Commercial vehicles including Okada riders were on the road to convey passengers to their respective destinations.

An Asaba resident, Okonji Nwachuwu said the sit-at-home order “cannot and will never work in this part of the country which is the Niger Delta or South-South.

“Those in the South-East can sit at home if they have nothing to do but for us in Asaba, today is not a weekend neither is it a national holiday. People should go about their activities and forget about the directive.”

However, the ever busy Benin-Asaba-Onitsha expressway witnessed very scanty vehicular traffic due to the total compliance in the Onitsha.

Regular commercial buses going to Onitsha from Asaba did not operate as a result of lack of passengers as business people were forewarned that shops in Onitsha Market will be shutdown.

In Okwe, a suburb of Asaba stronghold of IPOB in the Delta capital city, schools and shops were closed in compliance with the sit-at-home order.
